VI Package Manager (VIPM) > Getting Started

Checking your Subscriptions for Available Packages

VIPM supports automatic checking of your subscriptions and downloading of packages from the internet or your intranet. To populate your package list with all the available packages you must check for package updates. If you don’t do this your package list will be empty.

To perform this check you must have an active network connection and then click on the button on the VIPM toolbar. This will access the remote package repository subscription and compare the packages in your library with what’s available remotely. After this is performed you will see the packages in your list.

Note: Even though the package list may contain changes, VIPM only notifies you (with a dialog) on those packages which are already installed on your system. You won’t get a notification dialog on packages which are not installed.
